Bush in Germany: "He is not our guest!"
Bush in Germany: "He is not our guest!" End the Wars - Stop the Planning for Wars!
We will receive US President Bush on his visit on 13 July 2006 in
Stralsund with appropriately broad protests. His arrogant power politics
are
by now rejected even by most of US society. And here, too, we must make
it
clear to him that he is not welcome.
We demand of his hostess, Chancellor Merkel, that she not support any
acts of
war against Iran. All attempts to date to solve political problems
militarily
have failed bloodily. War must no longer be a means of politics! A war
against Iran would not only cost many people's lives and destroy the
country's infrastructure, but also smash the civil society which seeks
to
live in peace and solidarity, democratically and free from oppression.
Despite this, the US government leaves no doubt about its desire to
attack
Iran militarily. It will not even preclude the use of its own nuclear
weapons.
Opposition by Europe can thwart these plans.
The German government has already provided substantial aid for the
warmaking
policies of the USA: by the use of the military air bases located here,
and
by providing guards for the US military installations: by the deployment
of
the Bundeswehr in Afghanistan and on the Horn of Africa, as well as by
aid in the form of training and materiel for Iraqi troops. This
complicity
must be ended!
The German government broke the ban on wars of aggression stipulated in
our
Constitution and binding under international law for the first time in
1999,
in the war on Yugoslavia. It is pursuing single-mindedly the conversion
of the
Bundeswehr into an army for intervention that can be deployed throughout
the
world. The new White Book announced by Minister of Defence Jung is
intended
to redefine "defence of the nation", so as to justify military action by
the
Bundeswehr throughout the world, and to declare it the normal situation.
Domestically, the so-called "War on Terrorism" is accompanied by
increasing
diminishment of social services and democratic rights. Soon, they intend
to
make use of the Bundeswehr at home, as well. The World Cup is serving as
the
first trial run. Interior Minister Sch„uble wants to use information
obtained
by torture in court, thus undermining the worldwide ban on torture.
The US government needs European countries as close allies in its
"Coalition
of the Willing", so as to be able to wage further "wars on terrorism".
But the
wars waged by the USA are themselves terror and the source of ever more
violence. In fact, their real aim is control over the main sources of
oil and
other sources of energy in the Near and Middle East, on into Central
Asia.
We demand:
- No war against Iran
- Withdrawal of the occupation forces from Iraq and Afghanistan
- An end to the participation by NATO, EU and Bundeswehr in worldwide wars
- Punishment of all those responsible for torture and mistreatment of prisoners and attacks on civilians
- A nuclear-weapons-free zone in the Near and Middle East region
- A new international initiative for global systematic nuclear disarmament, as stipulated in the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty
- Establishment of a permanent conference on security and cooperation in the Middle and Near East
- No wars for oil or other natural resources: giving up nuclear and fossil fuels, taking up renewable sources of energy
This is what we advocate:
In order to solve peacefully the urgent problems facing people
globally, the
world does not need any warmaking alliances, such as are forged at the
G-8
summit meetings, but rather disarmament and cooperation based on
solidarity.
We want the law of nations and national sovereignty and borders to be
respected, and a civilian and social Europe with a commitment to
disarmament.
Our priority needs are subsidized jobs and investments in childcare,
education, healthcare, and environmental protection.
That is what we will be demonstrating for together on July 13th in Stralsund, and on July 13th to 15th throughout the country.
No blood for oil!
